The US hit the debt ceiling set by Congress yesterday (Thursday, January 19, 2023) forcing the Treasury Department to start taking extraordinary measures to keep the government paying its bills and escalating pressure on Capitol Hill to avoid a catastrophic default.
The US spends way too much money on the Military Industrial Complex including fighting the present proxy war in Ukraine It is estimated that $54.43 billion plus the White House’s new request for $37 billion would bring the total cost of U.S. involvement in Ukraine to $91,430,000,000.
The Ukraine war is entirely unnecessary. Russia had repeatedly told the US that it doesn’t want a NATO country next to its borders which is comparable to a similar situation that started the Cuban crisis. In the name of “democracy” the US pushed too hard and Putin reacted. We may argue that Putin should not have reacted but if you push a nuclear power into a corner, nothing good happens.
As a result, the US is spending $91 billion that we can’t afford to fight a proxy war and civilian Ukrainian are the sacrificial lambs in the process.
If the liberal democratic system is so superior, why are there so many problems in the US?
- Inflation
- Homelessness
- Dwindling middle class
- Gun violence
- Jan 6, 2021 insurgency
- Endless wars – only 20 years of peace in 250 years of US existence
- Discrimination, marginalizing and beating up minorities
- Crumbling infrastructures
- College student debts going through the ceiling
- 60% of Americans can’t pay a $500 unpredicted bill
- Neither parties work for the country or the American people
- Non-existent health care system for the middle class
- Arguably the US is an oligarchy instead of a democracy
- etc., etc…..
The US should stop dictating to other countries, telling them what to do before fixing its own problems. We should start to negotiate for peace in Ukraine and stop pushing “liberal democracy” to the world until we learn to practice it ourselves!
